Does Server Progression Matter

Daniel talked about the PTR's decision not to remove the Essence of Immortals and the evolving content of Quel'Danas some time ago which made me think a bit more about progression.

Evidently, the removal of that bit of the Sunwell Plateau isn't particularly devastating or crippling. Its inclusion could actually cause problems for the underpopulated, raiding-light servers, holding the one or two raiding guilds away from enjoying content because they picked the wrong server to roll on. I can understand why the server was removed however my mind being the solitary creature, it is being used to fuel similar topics, my brain cells discussing it amongst themselves.

What is the importance of a server's progress? serverlist101 World progression is widely remembered by the WoW community. SERVER LIST Almost everyone knows world firsts, seconds , and thirds. What does it matter on a server level? Do you know who hacked Illidan first on your server? Second? Fifth? What do you think of Kael'thas? Do you remember Kil'jaeden's first death?

My home server keeps all of the information in a tacked progression thread. We have charts for Tier 4, 5 and 6 content, and we'll have one for the Sunwell. Although this information isn't very important, it's useful to see who's where in the progression and to track raid advance from the ground. As someone who is already awe-inspiring in Black Temple, it is extremely exciting for me when it's time to add another guild to the Tier 6 progression list. I love high-end content and it's fantastic to have the chance to share it with others.

Hm. Hm. Can you name the first guild on your server that took down Illidan?
