Minecraft Sells 54 Million Copies Console Editions Pass PC

The blocky sandbox game that is so popular Minecraft is closing in on 54 million copies sold across all platforms, claims Mojang's Patrick Geuder, who also announced on Twitter that the console (Xbox 360 and PS3) versions of the game have now exceeded sales of the PC and Mac versions. The first time that players played Minecraft were in May 2009, when the alpha version of Minecraft was made available, a little more than two years prior to its full release in November of 2011. Mojang and Markus "Notch", Persson who developed Minecraft, have achieved many milestones in the sales. Recently, Mojang reported that 15 million copies were sold of the PC version.
